FRANKFORT GREEN

Frankfort Green, Leland Blue, and other similar stones are remnants of Iron Ore smelting and are found in places where the Slag Glass was disposed of. Iron ore from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan had a high concentration of Quartz, and in Frankfort, Michigan it was particularly green. Foundries across the region created Steel in Michigan towns like Marquette and the ghost town of Fayette, and in what are now tourist towns like Leland, Frankfort, and Elk Rapids.
